The World Could Be A Safer Place If Every person Was A Defensive Driver

By Ebenezer Ankumanyi

You'll find many bad drivers out on the highways, and they contribute to many accidents. Sadly, in most cases, the people who are hurt just didn't cause the accident. No matter if you like it or not, every time you get behind the wheel of your car, you should be prepared to be a defensive driver. It really is in your best interest to be aware of what other drivers are doing so you will not be surprised at their next actions.

When you are driving, there are a variety of things you can do to be all set for the unexpected. The best course of action is to be attentive. Once you get behind the wheel of your car, it's not the time to be chatting with people on the phone or in the car and it's not recommended to spend much time looking at the passing sights. The goal of driving is to transport you and your passengers from one location to another uneventfully. At any time that you must deal with a distraction whether it's conversing with other people in the car, talking on the phone, turning on the radio, or checking your makeup in the mirror, you're increasing your chances of having an accident.

Even though a lot of places in the United States and around the world have made talking on cell phones while driving illegal, people continue doing so anyway. Working with one hand to drive and the other hand to hold a cell phone can be precarious as talking with someone can be very distracting. It is quite simple to get so engaged in your conversation, that you aren't even thinking about what you are seeing on the road in front of you. When you have to move rapidly in order to avoid hitting something, your reaction time may be extremely slow if you're concentrating on something other than your driving. You never know when an unexpected obstacle will get in your way, so it is essential to stay alert.

Keeping aware of road conditions is vital as you never know when you may come across something in the road. While an average road poses no threat to your safety while driving, dangerous items can sometimes fall off of trucks and, in some locations, falling rocks are a real possibility. All of these things can turn out to be the cause of an accident waiting to happen. If the driver suddenly runs into some unexpected debris in the road, he will probably obtain some harm to his car particularly if he is driving at high speeds. Unfortunately, it could even cause you to be in the middle of a major accident, either single car or multi-vehicle. Think about how many times you have had to swerve to miss a thing in the road, and if you weren't paying attention what might have happened.

If there's a chance of animals or pedestrians being in the vicinity, it can be especially important that you pay attention to what's going on around you. A defensive driver will be on the alert for them at all times. You definitely don't wish to cause pain to someone who was following the rules of the road simply because you chose not to give your full attention to your driving.

  1. Nice post. Completely agree with everything in it. Here in the UK, despite the law being introduced to prevent motorists from driving with a mobile phone back in 2003, the amount of people you still see on a day to day basis doing it is astonishing. A friend of mine was recently involved in an accident where the person behind her at traffic lights was on a mobile phone and as a result reacted too late and bumped the back of her car. They were both fine, though she's had to pay for a few minor repairs. Thankfully, the road they were on prevented them from driving at a high speed otherwise the accident could have been a lot more serious.

  2. Wonderful thought and it is true too. But it is very tough for all. Remember not impossible. In this fast world, everyone wants to go fast, everyone is in hurry. I hope the world would become safest place.
